Na Córais Chreidiúnaithe d'Aistritheoirí agus d'Eagarthóirí | Accreditation Systems for Translators and Editors
Foreword
Since 2005, the Department has focused on developing an Accreditation System for Translators.
As Irish changes within the modern environment, linguistic challenges are emerging. Now, more than ever, there is a great demand for translators, because of the status of the Irish language in the EU and the enactment of the Official Languages Act. This innovative Accreditation System ensures that there is a level of excellence in the translation sector and that the reputation of competent translators is safeguarded. This system focuses mainly on the individual translator so that a panel of accredited translators is made available to the public sector.
An accreditation certificate is awarded to translators who reach a level of excellence. As a first step in testing for this standard an examination is organised at regular intervals. This accreditation system is a continuous process and support is given to those seeking to achieve accreditation.
